Director Capra made films to honor the common man, who earns a living in the sweat of his brow. The Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life is his magnum opus, starring James Stewart as a desperate businessman who is shown on the arm of an angel what would have become of his lovely village had it not been for him. Capra's tour de force was named the most inspirational film ever by the American Film Institute in 2006. A flop in theaters but a resounding success on the tube, where the film is shown almost every year around Christmas.
