From November 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026, special soil finds are on display at Museum De Roos.
The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Oudheidkundige Kring Geertruydenberghe.
This temporary exhibition features a wide variety of soil finds from the Middle Ages to World War II: red pottery from the period 1300-1600, a Cologne stock pot from 1850-1925 and an Amphora from around 1600, wooden bowling balls from the 18th century, playful marbles of yesteryear, shoe and belt buckles 1500-1700 and stone cannonballs used at the siege of the castle of Geertruidenberg in 1420.
Also included are grinding and whetstones, stone fishing net reinforcements, an officer's brass button worn at the capture of Geertruidenberg in 1793, a brass torque hook/strap guide in use with the Dutch army around 1920, and a scabbard tip guard from around 1420 used to protect the end of a sword or dagger scabbard.
Too many to mention all the finds, each guaranteed to have been found in the soil of fortified Geertruidenberg.
Museum De Roos is open on:
Thursday and Friday from 11.00-15.00 hours
Saturday from 11.00-16.00 hours
Sunday from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
