Once again this year we will be out cycling during the Meimaand Fietsmaand! In this month, the various beautiful river areas in the Netherlands are put in the spotlight, and Uit in de regio has mapped out some 11 great cycling routes for this, including our beautiful Fortress-to-Fortress route from Geertruidenberg to Heusden.
The Vesting tot Vesting route is one of the many wonderful routes you can find in region De Langstraat. It is a route where history, culture and nature come together in a breathtaking landscape. The 67 km long route starts and ends in Geertruidenberg and takes you past several picturesque (fortified) towns such as Heusden and Drunen. You will also pass several interesting historical sights & works of art along the way. With of course stunning scenery to enjoy throughout the route. Perfect for a relaxing day out or a weekend full of adventure.

Pontjesdagen 2026: the ultimate slow-travel experience
Besides the Fortress-to-Fortress route, there is another reason to get on your bike in May: The Ferry Days. During the weekend of May 22, 23 and 24, 100 kilometers of beautiful Meuse scenery will be the focus of a relaxed voyage of discovery in which nature, tranquility and small adventures alternate.
During this three-day experience, you step from bank to bank on several ferries. While the Meuse flows gently alongside you, you cycle over dikes, through floodplains and past cozy villages and historic towns like Heusden and Geertruidenberg. It is the perfect pace to really get away from it all and enjoy all the beauty this river area has to offer.
