Former City Hall of Geertruidenberg
On the Markt, there is the former town hall, an icon of the city. During your visit, you’ll learn more about Geertruidenberg’s administrative history. The monument is also part of a special city walking tour.
The Old Guard
This unique building at The Old Guard Located on W. Mulderplein, it tells the story of the fortified town’s military history. A visit offers a unique glimpse into the past.

Do you really want to discover the story behind the historic sites? Then join us on A guided city walk and tower climb. During this guided tour, you’ll visit the City Hall, the Geertruidskerk, and the historic almshouses, among other sites. The guide will take you past the highlights of Holland’s oldest city and share fascinating stories about residents, leaders, and monuments throughout the centuries.
Den Berg Tour
There’s even more to experience in Geertruidenberg during Open Monument Day. On Sunday, September 13, the 35th edition of “Rondje den Berg” will also take place. This beloved event brings the historic fortified town to life with surprising street theater, colorful market stalls, and creative entertainment for all ages. While visitors explore the monuments, the theater performances and lively activities create a festive and unique experience in the heart of the city.

Explore architectural gems in Waalwijk
In Waalwijk, too, during Open Monument Day Three iconic buildings will be open to visitors. All locations are free to visit and offer guided tours. All three monuments are within walking distance of each other, making it easy to plan a full afternoon of cultural exploration.
St. John the Baptist Church
Anyone driving into Waalwijk can’t miss it: the imposing St. John the Baptist Church has defined the downtown skyline for over a century. With its striking copper domes, Eastern influences, and impressive size, this is one of the most remarkable churches in the Netherlands.

One of the most fairy-tale-like locations during Open Monument Day is undoubtedly Het Witte Kasteel in Loon op Zand.
On this day, you can take part in free guided tours in and around the castle. Volunteers will tell you all about the estate’s rich history, its unique architectural history, former residents, and the monument’s current use.

Discover the Governor’s House during Open Monument Day
During Open Monument Days on September 12 and 13, the Governor’s House in the fortified town of Heusden will open its doors free of charge. Step inside this unique historic site and discover the rich history of Heusden and the surrounding area. Admire paintings, historical maps, and scale models, and be sure to take a look around the charming walled garden afterward.
Both the museum and the garden are open to the public free of charge on these days. A wonderful opportunity to combine culture, history, and a visit to the beautiful fortified town of Heusden!
