Discover De Brand with this IVN walk

With boots along the Zandleij

De Brand is "a wet pearl" between the higher sandy soils of De Loonse en Drunense Duinen and Udenhout. Most people will know the area as 'the forest where in spring the Bosannemomen are so frequently in bloom'. This is of course beautiful, but De Brand has so much more to offer. Take a walk in another part of De Brand! In the IVN Routes app - which you can download for free in the App store of your phone - you will find the hike 'With boots along the Zandleij'. On this 6-kilometer hike you will discover De Brand nature reserve from a different side.

After leaving from At Brasserie De Kat in the Schoorstraat, you wander along the Zandleij first towards the Loonse Molenstraat and then to the Loonse Hoek, then walk through the Buntsteeg, and behind the Schoorstraat across the Baronsvelden back towards De Kat. Along the way you will probably see or hear (in the summer period) the tree frogs, maybe see deer, and hear the buzzard meowing high in the sky. In autumn you can feast on the great variety of mushrooms and get a breath of fresh air.

For more hiking fun, prepare well: bring binoculars, lubricate against mosquitoes and ticks, and wear rubber boots, because it can be quite wet in De Brand even in the middle of summer. Make sure you have a well-charged phone with the IVN hiking app if you like to read or listen to information about the area and the flora and fauna you will encounter during your hike.
