You hike the route using the gpx file you can download from this page on your smartphone or via the Vossenstreken app: download the app in your app store and then choose route 'Westelijke Langstraat'. In the Vossenstreken app you can also complete assignments during the hike. Fun for the kids!
The West Langstraat area is located on the `Naad of Brabant`. It is the transition between the Brabant sand and clay soils. You will find all kinds of different, mostly wet areas here. They are so wet because groundwater flows out through 'the Naad'. Special plants grow on this mineral-rich water, which also attracts special animals.
There was plenty of work in the area, and this has left many traces in the landscape. Peat extraction, hay and oak bark (for the tanneries of the, for the Langstraat known, shoe industry): it was all grown here.
