Smita, Giulia and Sarah, three women from different parts of the world, have never met, but despite each living on different continents and coming from different cultures, they are connected.
Three women, three continents, three cultures; in The Braid, the film adaptation of her bestseller of the same name, director Laetitia Colombani tells the story of three lives that are intertwined despite major differences. In India, Smita is a so-called untouchable who earns a living cleaning up excrement. She dreams of giving her daughter an education, something that seems impossible. But she is willing to give up everything for a better future. In Montreal, Canada, Sarah is a divorced mother trying to keep her breast cancer diagnosis hidden so as not to jeopardize her planned promotion. In Sicily, Italy, Giulia is trying to keep her father's wig studio open despite many setbacks.
A story about women's perseverance, and unconscious commitment.
