This building, which now houses a fashion store, used to house a drawing school. After 1850, the need for machines increased so that people could make shoes faster and more than by hand. To cope with the demand for new shoes, there was also a need for other education. In this building came an important school: 'the Teekenschool'. Here the students learned to paint and draw well to design shoes and use leather. 'To draw something with black chalk' means to suggest to someone something that is not very favorable.
