Waalwijk, Theater De Leest Eus - The Class Migrant

An inspiring and humorous story about education, social mobility, and the power of art and culture

Anyone who had predicted forty years ago that little Eus, from a working-class neighborhood in Deventer, would make a career out of the Dutch language would likely have been declared crazy. Yet he managed to break free from the working class, thanks in large part to education and literature. With novels such as “Eus,” “Turis,” and “Afslag 23,” he became a celebrated writer. He is also a columnist and host of TV shows such as “De Geknipte Gast” and “Sterren op het Doek.” Despite this, he often feels like an outsider. In “De Klassenmigrant,” Eus takes you on a personal, sometimes painful, but above all hopeful journey. With humor and a keen eye, he recounts the obstacles, insights, and opportunities he encountered on his path to a new life. This makes his one-man show an inspiring and timely plea for the written word, cultural development, and class equality.
