This place was called a fox mountain, because many foxes lived here. Do you remember that there used to be a lot of peat soil in Kaatsheuvel? A fox mountain is such a piece of peat soil: it lies like a thick sponge on a wet underlayer. It also lies a lot higher; on a "mountain. In it, foxes can easily make burrows.
By digging off the wet peat soil, the underlying dry sand which survives, started to drift. Hence many drifting sand areas, as you see in the Loonse and Drunense Dunes. The fox adapted to these dry grounds and in the beautiful dunes the fox still lives!
Vossenbergselaan 1C, 5171 CA Kaatsheuvel
