The last hours before a major attack are the worst. This also applies to the Scottish Highlanders preparing to cross the Afwateringskanaal from 's -Hertogenbosch to Drongelen. It is Saturday, November 4, 1944, a crisp and gray autumn day. The temperature hovers around nine degrees and there is a weak wind. Soldiers of the 51st Highland Division arrive at the end of the morning at various locations in the Loonse and Drunense Dunes.
