Take the route Proverbs Route - Catharine Church

From poverty to riches
Poor as a church mouse means very poor. Heusden was poverty-stricken for a time. The inhabitants had almost nothing ... except an important location! Even William of Orange knew that. He placed a group of soldiers in Heusden to protect the city. Those soldiers had to eat, sleep somewhere and their clothes had to be washed. For this, the inhabitants of the town were given money. At one point, Heusden had twice as many soldiers as inhabitants. So as a result, Heusden became (treasure) rich!
