Take the proverbial route - Joris and the dragon

To make fun of someone (or something) means to make fun of someone or something. This expression comes from the legend of George and the dragon. Right: about this story even a cool roller coaster was made in the Efteling! According to the legend, Saint George is said to have fought with and killed a dragon to save a princess. The fight of Joris against the dragon has often been reenacted, usually turning it into something ridiculous - they make fun of it!

Beautiful facade stone
You can see on this building a facade stone of Joris and the dragon. In the past, buildings did not have house numbers, but a name. With a masonry stone one could depict that name; so everyone knew which building you meant! The Saint George's guild used to meet here. The men practiced on the ramparts with their footbows (weapons) and chose the sturdy knight Saint George as their symbol.

Fact from Sjors
Napoleon made sure we have street names. When he ruled the Netherlands (early 1800s) he introduced laws that we still have to deal with every day: every street must have a name, but also every person must have a last name.

Continued route
Walk back to the Pelsestraat. Take the first left towards the church.
