At the back of the store is the Tourist Information Point (TIP) of RBT De Langstraat, a place where visitors can go for inspiration, tips and a personal conversation. This is where I meet Gerard, the face behind the TIP.
A personal approach at the Tourist Information Point
Gerard explains that it is precisely this personal approach that makes the TIP in the Primera such a nice place. "Visitors can just walk in here with their questions," he explains. "We have maps, brochures, information about events and activities, but most of all: time and attention." The atmosphere is accessible and welcoming, making it easy for people to tell us what they are looking for. Whether it's a day out, a weekend away or a spontaneous idea during their stay in De Langstraat.
Gerard notices this need on a daily basis. He thinks for a moment and then says, "People often ask about maps, brochures or about our two icons: the Loonse and Drunense Dunes and the Efteling." Regularly, visitors stand at the counter with very specific questions. Where is a nice place to eat? What is there to do today? And what should you really not miss in the neighborhood?
What visitors ask about most
The questions Gerard hears most often are a perfect match. Walking and cycling routes are in high demand, as are tips for local restaurants and cafes. Events and attractions also do well. "And families are often looking for kid-friendly activities," he says. "That makes it fun, because then you can really think along."
From hiking routes to family outings: tailored tips
That thinking along is exactly what gives Gerard energy. He prefers to help visitors with tips tailored to their interests. One example sticks with him: "A family came in looking for a fun bike ride with kids. I recommended a route along the dunes to them, with playgrounds and restaurants along the way. They enthusiastically walked out the door." Moments like that make working at the TIP special.
The strength of the TIP: conversations and hospitality
When I ask what he himself likes most about the TIP, Gerard doesn't have to think for long. "The conversations," he says immediately. "The contact with visitors, the stories you exchange. And of course the decor helps too. It feels cozy and inviting here, so people quickly feel welcome."
Looking ahead: the future of the TIP in Kaatsheuvel
Gerard sees plenty of opportunities for the future. He talks about collaborations with local entrepreneurs and thinks aloud about further spreading the Giant story in De Langstraat. "The TIP can be a nice base to tell that story," he says. He also sees opportunities for special events, thematic information evenings and innovative ways to share information, for example through apps that help visitors explore the region.
As I leave the Primera again, I take one last look at the mushroom and the signpost. They are small details, but they make it immediately clear where you are: in De Langstraat, where stories begin at the TIP in Kaatsheuvel and where Gerard is ready to tell them further.
