The proverb routes in Waalwijk, Kaatsheuvel, fortified town Heusden and fortified town Geertruidenberg take you past beautiful buildings and other special historical places. The proverb routes in Kaatsheuvel, Heusden and Waalwijk are mainly aimed at groups with children between 6 and 12 years old. The route in Geertruidenberg is a bit more challenging and therefore more suitable for children 10 years and older.
Don't think that the information in the free assignment booklet is just child's play. Browse through it yourself, you will undoubtedly learn something. During the route in Kaatsheuvel I learned about the heroic deed of resistance hero Jan de Rooij, in Heusden I found out about the origin of "getting killed" and in Waalwijk I discovered that Hugo de Groot - after his escape from Slot Loevestein - was helped there to get a horse and carriage to escape to Belgium. Augmented Reality was used in Geertruidenberg, which gave an extra dimension to the route.
The proverb routes in Waalwijk, fortified town Heusden, fortified town Geertruidenberg and Kaatsheuvel are completely free. You can pick up the assignment booklet at local Tourist Information Points. The walk ranges from 2.1 km to 4 km. Thanks to the many stops, these distances are also doable for toddlers. You can easily spend an hour and a half on this fun family walk, and even after the walk the kids can still get on with some fun puzzles in the booklet. All in all, a great alternative to screen time! Last but not least, the proverb walks are wheelchair and baby carriage friendly*. So everyone can join the adventure!
