Bicycle route Overdiepse Polder and Bergsche Maas
The bicycle junction network allows you to travel the most beautiful routes, such as this route along the Bergsche Maas. Simply follow the junction numbers on the posts from one numbered junction to another.
The Bergsche Maas is a 24.5-kilometer-long dug river. Where the course of the Bergsche Maas deviated from its original bed, three watercourses remain known as the Oude Maasje. This was done to prevent drastic changes in the drainage of the surrounding polders, which traditionally drained into the Oude Maasje.
In times of extreme high water, Bergsche Maas is a threat to villages and towns along the river from Geertruidenberg to 's-Hertogenbosch. Water Board Brabantse Delta, government and residents have worked together to create room for the river in the Overdiepse Polder to prevent flooding. The farms in this area have been placed on mounds.
