Bike tour of dunes and fortress
This route starts at De Loonse en Drunense Duinen. This national park is also called the Brabant Sahara. The area is more than 7,000 soccer fields. The wind can blow undisturbed over the sandy plains and that creates an ever-changing landscape. That, along with the changing of the seasons, make for a unique experience with every visit.
Then this route sends you through the Elshoutse Wielen nature reserve to the Bergsche Maas. The Bergsche Maas is a 24.5-kilometer long dug river that connects the Biesbosch and 's-Hertogenbosch.
You can stop for a bite to eat and a drink in the fortified town of Heusden. Heusden grew up around one of the oldest moated castles in northwestern Europe and was one of the first Dutch towns to receive a city wall. Thanks to restorations, much of the old Heusden can still be admired.
Via the Haarsteegse Wiel nature reserve and De Roeivijver you cycle back to the starting point.
