D'n Braand

This route runs between Loon op Zand, Biezenmortel, Udenhout, Berkel Enschot and Tilburg. It is a special experience when between KP41 and KP35 you see the dune wall of the Loonse and Drunen on the left and an agricultural landscape on the right. Over the centuries this dune wall protected the farmland from the rising drifting sand.

Get off at KP36 and walk along a winding path to a unique panoramic viewpoint over the large shifting sands of the Loonse and Drunense Dunes. You may also see from this path the memorial to 14 resistance fighters who were shot in World War II and never recovered.

Towards KP35 and KP46 you will see on the right side the green wetland area 'De Brand'. It is the opposite of the dry and higher Loonse en Drunense Duinen. The small rivers De Zandleij and Zandkantse Leij drain the water. Many bird species live there, including buzzards. You will also find tree frogs and deer.

We also cycle through Udenhout. Here traces of habitation have been found from 5000 years ago. The oldest known mention is from 1233. Just before KP44 you see on the right hand buildings of ASVZ-Vincentius (photo); a home for people with intellectual disabilities. The former main building is a national monument from 1927 and built in the style of the Amsterdam School. It has been/is now being converted into luxury apartments. The characteristic water tower has been converted into a "faunator" for birds, insects and bats.

On the corner before the intersection is Theeschenkerij 't Rectoraat run by people with intellectual disabilities. Cycling further through the center of Udenhout, we see the Sint-Lambertuskerk on the left, a neo-classical waterfront church and National Monument from 1841.

Between KP42 and KP92 you can turn left into the Pater Dondersstraat to visit the pilgrimage site of Peerke Donders. Worthwhile with the Petrus Donders chapel and park with Stations of the Cross. Towards Loon op Zand we pass the Noorderplas and the Moleneind, where the Birth Forest and the Estate with tavern 't Blauwe Schaap are located. Back in Loon op Zand we can again enjoy the various terraces and catering establishments.
