Heusden, Heusden Heusden Fortress Liberation Walk

On November 5, 1944, Heusden was liberated by Allied Scottish troops. This was a significant moment in the history of the fortified town, but also a period marked by dramatic events.

In conjunction with the commemoration, we are organizing two special Liberation Walks through Heusden. Accompanied by a guide, you’ll walk past historic sites and memorials and learn more about the town hall disaster, the ammunition explosion on Wilhelminaplein, and the shelling and destruction that struck Heusden.

  • Wednesday, November 4 | 3:00 p.m.

  • Saturday, November 7 | 11:00 a.m.

On these days, the Tourist Information Center will also screen a special film about the liberation of Heusden and the period that followed.

A unique way to reflect on the stories that are still visible and palpable in this fortified town.

You can sign up for the Liberation Walks on our website or at the Heusden Tourist Information Center.
