From the book '13 blokskes om'.
Pauwels
On Oranjeplein once stood our music kiosk. An open "shell" with beautiful acoustics, where the two Loon harmonies Concordia and Sophia's Vereeniging performed their sounds. It has been converted into a cozy Brasserie.
From the Oranjeplein you walk eastward into the Kloosterstraat, where you see stately mansions formerly occupied by shoe manufacturers and notables. There were also ordinary working-class houses in the same street.
After KP15 and the turn to the left, you walk past a gas extraction site that is operational. Yep... gas is still being extracted here!
At the T-junction you will find the farm store Terra Vie. Tip: The farmer and farmer's wife sell delicious products from their own livestock and land here. Stop in and buy something delicious!
After KP55 you arrive at the Pauwels estate. Among other things, you will find an educational farm here. Among other things, they specialize in landscape management through the use of sheep herds. At tavern 't Blauwe Schaap you can have something to eat or drink. Then enjoy the forest and meadows while walking.
Het Witte Kasteel at KP41 is an interesting place. Walk down the wide avenue to the castle and imagine yourself in the 15th century. The castle has a rich history. The oldest part of the castle probably dates back to 1387. The castle was expanded in the 15th and 16th centuries. In 1777, the wings and the monumental gatehouse were demolished.
Fancy another 'blokske om' or a snack or drink? It's all possible in Loon op Zand. Enjoy!
