Around Sprang
Sprang-Capelle is a former municipality in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It was formed in 1923 after the merger of the municipalities of Sprang, Vrijhoeve-Capelle (popularly known as Vrijhoeve), and Capelle. These three villages together formed Sprang - Capelle. It now falls under the municipality of Waalwijk.
Sprang-Capelle has traditionally had a Protestant signature, which is remarkable given its predominantly Roman Catholic surroundings. The village is part of the so-called Bible Belt and is characterized by its rich history and characteristic houses and buildings. So there used to be a certain "rivalry" between Sprang-Capelle and our Roman Catholics in Kaatsheuvel.
The large Sint Janskerk of Kaatsheuvel therefore faces Sprang-Capelle with its front and the tall spires. We wanted the church spires to be seen in the distant surroundings. Walking along the Tilburgseweg from Sprang-Capelle to Kaatsheuvel, it is now fairly quiet. Until the 1970s, this was the only connection between Tilburg and Waalwijk. A lot of traffic passed over it then.
