1. Get lost in De Loonse en Drunense Duinen
Turn off your GPS for a change and head out into the sandy plains. It’s no coincidence that De Loonse en Drunense Duinen are called the “Brabant Sahara.” Hike across the shifting dunes, follow unknown paths, and discover just how vast and impressive this nature reserve really is. For a moment, it feels as if you’re hundreds of kilometers from home.

2. Watch the sunrise over the Meuse River
This experience requires getting up early, but trust me: it’s worth it! Find a quiet spot along the Maas River near the fortified town of Heusden and watch as the first rays of sunlight slowly illuminate the water, the ramparts, and the historic facades. It’s an experience you’ll remember for the rest of the day.

5. Go on a local-produce safari
Challenge yourself: today, you’re only allowed to eat local products. Hop on your bike and go find the ingredients for your dinner. And there’s no shortage of local products in De Langstraat. How about, for example, De Annahoeve Farm Shop? Or De Kersenhof and Domein Buitendijks! By the end of the day, you’ll not only have enjoyed a lovely ride, but also cycled your way to a completely local meal.
Tip: Bring a bike bag or picnic basket and stop along the way at a beautiful spot along the Meuse River, in the floodplains, or on the edge of the Loonse and Drunense Dunes.

6. Discover the power of forest bathing
Forest bathing might sound a bit woo-woo, but it’s actually very simple: slow down. Take a walk through nature without music, without a podcast, and without your phone. Listen to the birds, feel the wind through the trees, and consciously take in your surroundings. Precisely because it’s so simple, it feels surprisingly adventurous. Maybe you can even take off your shoes somewhere for a moment and feel the grass between your toes.

The higher you go, the more you see. Climb the tower in Geertruidenberg or find another vantage point where you can see for miles. Or join a hot-air balloon ride with Roza Ballooning. From above, you’ll discover just how diverse De Langstraat really is, with historic towns, rivers, nature reserves, and expansive landscapes.

8. Spend the night under the stars
A micro-adventure doesn’t always have to take place during the day. Park your RV at Camperplaats Heusden along the Meuse, or choose another mini-campground such as Hoeve De Bonte Kraai, Le Silence or De Reekens. At the latter, you can also spend the night in a gypsy wagon. As soon as night falls and the stars come out, a night away suddenly feels like a real mini-vacation.

9. Go on a photography expedition
Bring your camera or phone and set yourself a challenge: you’re only allowed to take ten photos today. This will make you look at your surroundings much more consciously. Suddenly, you’ll notice details you would never have seen otherwise. How about, for example, historic facades, fields in bloom, and unique views through the landscape?

10. Cycling with no destination in mind
Hop on your bike and let the route take you where it will. There are so many bike paths in the region that you’re bound to end up somewhere beautiful. Turn it into a game: at every intersection, alternate between turning left and right and see where you end up. It’s often those unexpected detours that lead you to the most beautiful spots—an unknown path, a hidden nature reserve, or a patio you’ve never been to before.
Do you have an e-bike? Then of course you don’t want to run out of battery power. That’s why we’ve listed all the charging stations in the region for you.

Waalwijk takes on a whole new atmosphere as soon as the sun goes down. The Wet Blue Route connects various works of art and light installations that tell the story of water, innovation, and industry. What I love about a micro-adventure is that you don’t have to spend weeks planning it. You don’t have to pack your bags or spend hours traveling. All you need is a little curiosity. Adventure is closer than you think.
So where will you start? Maybe as early as this coming weekend, somewhere in De Langstraat. Whatever your adventure may be, I hope you have a great time!
