If you like vistas, you will like this route. From KP51 we cycle to Dongensevaart. Then through the polder to Waspik. In Waspik, KP75, there are two churches. They are very different. The church on the south side in Waterschap architecture is the Sint-Bartholomeus and Sint-Barbara (1841). Named after two saints. The other is the Reformed Village Church (c.1450), built in late Gothic style.

We pedal on towards the Bergsche Maas. At extreme high water, this river poses a threat. The dikes were improved in recent decades and overflow areas were created, such as the Overdiepse polder (across the Oude Maasje). Eight farms have been placed on mounds here. Thanks to the Overdiepse polder, more than 4 million residents in the area keep dry feet.

KP02. We arrive at the War Memorial Kapelsche Veer. It commemorates the fierce battle between the Allies and the Germans in the winter of 1944/1945. Some 1,200 were wounded and killed here during Operation Market Garden, which involved creating a bridgehead across the rivers in the Netherlands.

Cross the Bergsche Maas with the Capelse Veerpont. Towards Drongelen enjoy the view of the Bergsche Maas and later the narrow rural roads with nice houses and farms. Take the Drongelense Veerpont back towards Waalwijk.

Between KP10 and KP08 we are in the Grotestraat. Especially look up and you can see the beautiful, stately old buildings and the big church even better. We also cycle around the old Council House and through the Hooisteeg, with old shoemaker houses. On the Winterdijk you can see the new town hall of Waalwijk.

Between KP44 and KP01 we cycle on a special bike path: the Halve Zolenpad. This used to be a railroad line: the Halve Zolenlijn. On it, parts of shoes were transported to Waalwijk and surroundings to supply the shoe industry in De Langstraat. It is now a beautiful bike path between Breda and Den Bosch with a view of the countryside.
