The Crane

The cozy Brasserie was once our music kiosk. An open "shell" with beautiful acoustics, where the two Loon harmonies Concordia and Sophia's Society often performed their sounds. Walk through the old Church Street towards the west. St. John's Abduction Catholic Church dates from 1394, with the transepts added in 1929 and 1951. The interior is intimate and warm. For nearly two centuries, the church has been in Protestant hands. On the other side of the highway, you enter a patch of forest and meadow land. Here you will see some very old fields with a diversity of beautiful plant tree species.

After junction 93 walk along the asphalt road to the next dirt track. Turn right here. This is called the Lijkpad, formerly the Lijksticht. Our ancestors transported the coffin with the deceased by horse and flat cart through this 'sticht'. Arriving at the church, the coffin was carried to the church and final resting place by local residents.

Arriving via the tunnel on the Loon side of the highway, re-enter the "backyard" of Loon Loon op Zand. Right after junction 01 you come across one of the many craters from World War II. It is a reminder of the Munitions Ausgabe Stelle (M.A.St.). When the Germans retreated in late 1944, they first blew up the dozens of ammunition depots. This is the southernmost crater.

Back in the center you can easily walk around the block or enjoy a delicious drink or snack. Enjoy!
