DAY 1
Visit the Schoenenkwartier
We start the weekend away at the iconic Schoenenkwartier in Waalwijk. Here you'll dive into the world of the shoe! In this modern museum and manufacturing lab, you'll discover how Waalwijk once grew into the heart of the Dutch shoe industry. In the inspiring (and interactive) exhibitions you will discover everything from traditional techniques to innovative designs. Don't forget to take the time to stroll through the makerspace where you will be surprised by a mix of fashion, history and design.
In the Schoenenkwartier you'll also find Waalwijk's Tourist Information Point. Handy if you need some inspiration for the rest of your visit. There is a shopping area where you can buy the nicest souvenirs and for a cup of coffee and some goodies you can sit down in the cozy restaurant.

PartyVlaai
All that cultural sniffing will make you hungry! And how convenient: around the corner from the Schoenenkwartier you will find PartyVlaai. This festive bakery is known far and wide for its freshly baked pies, (photo) cakes and award-winning pastries. PartyVlaai even has its own chocolate workshop. Is your mouth already watering?
When you get a snack at PartyVlaai, you really shouldn't skip the Halve-Zoolkoek: this is the delicacy of De Langstraat. The buttercream cake is made in the shape of a shoe sole as a tribute to the region's special shoe industry. And we can tell you, it is delicious!
