Start at De Loonse en Drunense Duinenoonse De Loonse en Drunense Duinen, also known as the Brabant Sahara

Bike tour of dunes and fortress

This varied bicycle route starts at the special nature reserve De Loonse en Drunense Duinen, also known as the Brabant Sahara. This area is over 7,000 soccer fields in size. The wind can blow undisturbed across the sandy plains, creating an ever-changing landscape. That, along with the changing of the seasons, make for a unique experience on every visit.

After De Loonse en Drunense Duinen, this route sends you via the Elshoutse Wielen to the Bergsche Maas. The Bergsche Maas is a 24.5 kilometer long dug river that connects the Biesbosch and 's-Hertogenbosch. We recommend stopping in the picturesque fortified town of Heusden for a bite to eat and a drink. This beautiful, convivial fortified town grew up around one of the oldest moated castles in northwestern Europe. As one of the first Dutch towns, Heusden received a city wall, parts of which can still be seen. Thanks to prestigious restorations, much of the original Heusden can still be admired.

The bike route leads you via Haarsteegse Wiel nature reserve and De Roeivijver back to the starting point.
